Singing and Guitar Playing: A Workshop for Pre-K through Grade 4 Teachers and Practitioners
Saturday, February 12th
9:00 am-12:00 pm
“Music is one way for young people to connect with themselves, but it is also a bridge for connecting with others. Through music, we can introduce children to the richness and diversity of the human family and to the myriad rhythms of life.” ~Daniel A. Carp, former Chairman and CEO of the Eastman Kodak Company
The purpose of this workshop is for educators to gain confidence in group singing with guitar accompaniment. Music can be used as a classroom management tool, particularly smoothing transitions throughout the day. It is also a fun and creative way to engage learners at any age.
Presenters:
Betsy Blachly has been on the faculty at Bank Street College School for Children for over thirty years, teaching infants, children, and graduate students the power and joy of using traditional material in classrooms and homes. Betsy has a special interest in music therapy and teams with the Bank Street Family Center therapists in their sessions with special needs children as well as works at a homeless shelter and with private clients.
