Mindfulness for Educators

Dear Bank Street Community,

I want to share with Bank Street alums and others from the Bank Street community the launching of a new Mindfulness for Educators Certificate Program that begins this January 2011. This program is a collaboration between The Center for Mindful Inquiry, Antioch University New England Center for School Renewal, and Barre Center for Buddhist Studies. This program is for educators who want to explore deeply the connection between mindfulness meditation and their teaching practice. The eight graduate credit Certificate Program combines opportunities for educators to deepen their own mindfulness and compassion practices and to better understand current theories that connect mindfulness to models of teaching, learning and human development. This is a year-long program, consisting of three residencies at Barre Center for Buddhist Studies (two weekend ones and a five day retreat) and two online courses. Judy graduated from Bank Street in 1977 (matriculated 1969-1970), was a public school teacher for 30 years mostly in Vermont (six in Bank Street Follow Through classrooms and the rest in other innovative public school settings), was core faculty in the Education Department at Antioch University New England for the last ten years, and is recently retired. I’m involved now in starting the Mindfulness for Educators Certificate Program and thought people from the Bank Street community might be interested in knowing about it.
